We are a 140+ year old family association run by volunteers, who have an interest in their Hartwell ancestry. Nearly all Hartwells in this country descend from a common ancestor, William Hartwell (1613-1690) of English origin, who settled in Concord, Massachusetts in 1636.

What we offer:
  • A comprehensive modern Genealogy tracing the descendants of William Hartwell through 12 generations
  • An annual Reunion in the Concord area in late June
  • An annual Scholarship  to Hartwell descendants to further their education - the 2026 deadline is June 6
  • Ever-expanding website Archives to explore Hartwell family history

What you can do:
  • Learn about your Hartwell ancestors and trace your descent from William Hartwell
  • Attend our Reunion, make new connections and explore the Concord area
  • Encourage your teenage children to apply for a Hartwell scholarship
  • If you are a male and your surname is Hartwell, participate in our Y-DNA study
  • Research / contribute to the Hartwell Archives on our website
    • Hartwells in the Revolutionary War
    • Photographs of Hartwells from the 19th and early 20th centuries
    • Hartwell memorabilia
  • Keep up with the latest Hartwell news via the Hartwells of America on Facebook (see below), email notifications and our website
