The Hartwell "English Origins" Project
From the early days of our Association, Hartwells have had an intense interest in learning the origins of our immigrant ancestor William Hartwell, who was born in England around 1613. In her 2007 genealogy, Joy F. (Hartwell) Peach, wrote the appendix below to address what we know and what we do not. This is a good starting point for further research. We will continue to post new research and evidence as we come across it. Please feel free to contribute and ask questions.

An early Hartwell record from Aylesbury
The following image is of an Indenture from 1692, which conveys an inn owned by a John Hartwell of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, to John Clinton. This is intriguing because of the proximity of Aylesbury to Cranfield and Leighton Buzzard (less than 25 miles), mentioned by Joy above as potential locations of William Hartwell's kin.
